LATINOAMERICA HABLA – COLOMBIAMODA 2015
Colombiamoda took place one week ago here in Medellín, and by now there’s plenty of compilations of what it was all about. Why haven’t I made one of those compilations? Because for me, Colombiamoda 2015 was quite different to the past years, I was more focus on something else, a personal project.
A few months ago I presented a little collection to participate in Latino America Habla contest, I made it to the top 15 finalist, and had a very interesting month bringing to life one of them designs, funnily enough I ended up making everything real in three insane days.
I spent basically 3 weeks knitting my project, and I’ve never knit anything like it before, it was kind of ambitious and stupid to present knitting designs when the only thing I’ve had knitted before was a simple scarf, but fortunately I can say with pride “I made it”. When it was “finished” I decided to dye it, that was a big mistake, it didn’t work and I felt extremely scared and sad, especially because I had to show this horrible thing I’ve had created, and it was going to be displayed with my name and my picture on it.
People was going to see it and I would be embarrassed for life.
Luckily I have an amazing family who helped me as much as they could, especially making me feel that I could make it.
Three days before the deadline I started from zero. I knitted from the moment I woke up to the moment I fell asleep very late at night, but it was more than knitting, I had to dye hundreds of meters (literally) of cord, drying it, untangling it… It was a crazy marathon and I learnt a lot.
It was an incredibly experience, I proved myself I’m capable of doing anything I set my mind to.
I was surprised I didn’t freak out when I ruined it all, it ended up being so much better than my first attempt, it made me happy.
