Es tan común escuchar a la gente expresando cuando odia el drama… Pero lo siento, cuando se trata de estilo, el drama es más que bienvenido.
Hablemos de Ruffles, volantes, volados, boleros, olanes… como quieran llamarlos. Ese elemento decorativo ultra femenino que ha pisado las pasarelas por años y a su vez se ha regado por las calles.
Podemos inspirarnos en diseños donde se aplican desde su forma más tímida y sutil hasta su forma más atrevida y divertida. En blusas, vestidos, blazers, faldas, swimwear, ropa interior, medias, shorts y hasta en pantalones! Boleros de pies a cabeza!
Su uso es tan versátil que se adapta a muchísimos estilos, bohemio, romántico, sofisticado, elegante… Y te dan miles de opciones para crear un look completo creando fuertes contrastes.
It’s not unusual to hear people expressing how much they hate drama… I’m sorry but when it comes to style, drama is more than welcome!
Let’s talk about Ruffles. The decorative and ultra feminine element that hasn’t left the runways for many years and has taken the streets by storm.
We can get inspired by designs where ruffles are shyly and subtly applied or we can go for a more daring and fun approach. In blouses, dresses, blazers, skirts, swimwear, underwear, socks, shorts, and even trousers! Ruffles from head to toe in my opinion are a good thing.
Ruffles are so versatile they adapt to many styles; bohemian, romantic, sophisticated, elegant… And they give you thousands of options to create an entire look with bold contrasts.
Los volantes en si son un pedazo de tela que al ser cortado de forma curva y usando diferentes técnicas obtiene un efecto ondulado, determinado por la pronunciación de la curva en la que es cortada y del tamaño de la tela.
Y de donde vienen? Bueno en realidad no es muy claro… se dice que existen desde el siglo XIV. Es difícil decir con certeza cual fue su origen, pero podemos referenciarlos en diferentes momentos a lo largo de la historia y no solamente como parte del vestuario femenino, hace siglos los hombres también usaban prendas decoradas con boleros. Podemos mencionar algunos momentos, pasando por la época Isabelina y Victoriana, hasta el uso que le daban las gitanas españolas especialmente en sus trajes de flamenco, ciertos países latinos que más adelante adaptaron esta manipulación de tela a su indumentaria. No olvidemos mencionar la participación que los boleros han tenido en el diseño de interiores.
Los boleros han sobrevivido por siglos y aún que en varias épocas ha tomando ciertos descansos, en los últimos años ha podido demostrar su versatilidad y su magia.
Puede que daten del siglo XIV, pero personalmente no hay nada que me guste más que revivir antiguas tendencias, re interpretarlas de forma muy moderna, llena de estilo y drama!
Ruffles are created by cutting a curved strip of fabric and by using different techniques they acquire a variety of wavy effects, determined by the depth of the curve and the size of the fabric.
Where do they come from? Well, it’s not 100% clear… they say they have existed since the XIV century, but it’s actually hard to tell what their origin was. We can date them through different moments in history, and not only as a part of the female closet… for example a few centuries ago men used to wear clothing completely embellished with ruffles. We have the Elizabethan and Victorian eras, Spanish gipsy communities that made them part of their iconic flamenco dresses, and Latin countries later adapted the fabric manipulation to their vetements. And let’s not forget to mention ruffles being part of interior design.
Ruffles have survived for centuries, and even though they’ve taken breaks, we’ve been able to see their versatility and magic re-emerge in the last few years.
They might date from the XIV century, but I personally can’t find anything I like as much as bringing back to life old trends, give them a twist in a very modern way, full of style and of course…some drama!
